Greece: EU sanctions against the Turkish regime could be expanded

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias confirmed that the European Union sanctions against the Turkish regime are a first step and are likely to be expanded.

"The European Council referred to specific sanctions against the Turkish economic and trade sectors ... the fact that indicates a re-evaluation of the customs agreement between Turkey and the countries of the Union," Dendias told Parapolitic newspaper.

He added, "The European Council indicated that this is a first step and that there is a possible expansion of these sanctions to include other persons and entities."

The minister also considered that “the impact of US sanctions against Turkey will become clearer with the passage of time, which is a clear message to it,” noting that “the last sanctions imposed by the United States on Turkey were in 1974 following the Turkish invasion and occupation of the northern part of it.” He pointed out that “Turkish relations America has reached a stage it had never before.
