Dr. Avigdor Rimmer, 76, from Herzliya, was convicted today (Monday) of causing her death by negligence, and the abandonment of the late Tamar Langer, who was 83 at the time of her death.

Langer was standing next to Rimmer's vehicle and as a result of the injury she fell and her head hit the asphalt.

After the injury he fled the scene.

Rimmer was also convicted of obstruction of justice.

According to the indictment, Rimmer, a psychologist and well-known lecturer, drove his car on Jabotinsky Street in Herzliya last December in the direction of the intersection of Jabotinsky and Alterman streets in Herzliya.

At that time, the deceased stood her vehicle on a nearby traffic jam, with the rear of the vehicle protruding in the direction of the defendant's lane of travel.

Rimmer did not pay attention to the road, drove in a manner that endangered human life, did not notice the deceased's vehicle and hit the front of his vehicle with the back of a vehicle.

As a result of the injury, a car of the deceased was pushed towards the elderly woman standing next to him.

She fell to the ground and her head hit the asphalt road.

Passers-by who were at the scene approached the deceased and began to treat her.

Immediately afterwards the accused looked towards the scene of the accident, saw the rest lying on the road and the passers-by who assisted her, and fled the scene of the accident without assisting her and without leaving any identifying details.

A few days after the accident, Langer died at the hospital as a result of a head injury she sustained.

With regard to the offense of obstruction, it was alleged by the prosecution that a few days after the accident, Rimmer replaced a broken headlight in his vehicle, in order to disrupt the investigation and hide his identification as the driver of the offending vehicle.

Only two months after the accident, following an investigation by the Tel Aviv District Police Traffic Investigators Unit, his involvement in the accident was discovered and he was arrested.
