At the turn of the year, toasting and firing in public space is prohibited due to corona, as the Dachau district office clarifies.

But there is a loophole.

District

- It is not forbidden to fire fireworks in your own garden on New Year's Eve.

The same applies to the balcony, the terrace or the courtyard entrance: Firecrackers and rockets can be ignited there at midnight - but only on your own property, not on the street.

And watch out: This New Year's Eve rule does not apply to gardens that you share as a community of owners with your neighbors, as well as to a separate garden such as an allotment garden, your own meadow or hut that does not belong to the residential property;

In any case, the latter places in Bavaria may only be visited at midnight for a valid reason such as caring for animals.

In general, emphasizes the district office, these rules are only relevant from an epidemiological point of view.

In addition, the fire protection and neighborhood law relevant to fireworks also applies.

Why the curfew and the ban on alcohol and firecrackers do not apply in your own garden is explained in the Dachau district administration as follows: The garden is a purely legal part of the apartment.

So if you can toast at midnight in the living room, you should also be allowed to do so in the garden.

But even if a glass of sparkling wine and the crackling frog are allowed in the garden, the contact restrictions still apply there.

That means: On New Year's Eve, no more than five people from a maximum of two households - excluding children under 14 years of age - are allowed to celebrate the New Year together.

In any case, there shouldn't be too many rockets this year that soar into the night sky over the city and district.

In addition to the strict exit and firecracker rules, there is also a nationwide ban on the sale of so-called pyrotechnic objects of category F2.

In other words, only those who have left from last year can shoot rockets anyway.

And because all of this is not enough of regulation, the Dachau Palace Square must be pointed out in this context.

According to the Bavarian Palace and Lake Administration, the area is closed to cars and pedestrians from 6 p.m. to around 1 a.m. on New Year's Eve due to the risk of fire.
