While the vaccination start in Germany is slow, Israel is vaccinating its population at high speed.
According to the AFP news agency, the country has now announced a new milestone: "By the end of January we will have vaccinated two million people, mostly older people," said the Israeli Ministry of Health's director-general, Hezi Levy, according to the state broadcaster Kan.
That would represent more than a fifth of Israel's total population of around 9.2 million people.
As of Friday, a million people had already received their first of two necessary injections.
By the end of January, Levy said a total of two million people should have received both injections.
Israel vaccinates the population with the vaccine of the US-German pharmaceutical cooperation of the companies Pfizer and Biontech.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has named his country the "Corona vaccination world champion".
On Friday he said Israel was breaking all records.
"We're running away from the whole world." He himself was vaccinated on December 19th.
According to the Ministry of Health, more than 435,000 people have contracted the corona virus in Israel so far.
Almost 3,400 people died from or with the virus.
