On the way to a lengthy debate in Congress: the latest attempt to halt Biden

A group of Republican senators, led by veteran Sen. Ted Cruz, will challenge Joe Biden's victory in the United States presidential election while confirming his victory in Congress on Wednesday.

This is the last possible move by outgoing President Donald Trump's supporters to postpone the results, and he will most likely fail.

Courts have rejected dozens of petitions by presidential supporters against Biden's victory in several key states, after failing to present evidence of forgeries that influenced the ruling.

According to a statement from Republican lawmakers, signed by Cruz and six incumbent senators along with four new senators, "allegations of fraud and irregularities in the 2020 election surpass anything we have seen today."

The group said that when Congress convenes a joint session on Wednesday, it will demand the establishment of a special committee to hold a "ten-day emergency audit" of the election results.

The statement said that individual countries would then be able to convene special legislative sessions during which they could change the results.

"There is an attempt to steal a landslide victory. It cannot be allowed to happen!" Trump tweeted yesterday ahead of the congressional debate, which in regular elections is usually formal.

The outgoing president noted the 11 senators who formulated the initiative, adding: "And after they see the facts, many more will touch. Our country will love them for it!".

Even before he enters the White House, the elections in Georgia will shape the Biden administration

The 11 senators join Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, who said last week that he plans to raise his objections to the results.

In the House of Representatives, Congressman Louis Gohmert also announced his intention to oppose ratification of the results.

More than a hundred Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives have reportedly supported his initiative.

In addition, Gohmert tried to increase the chances of success of the attempt when he filed a petition demanding that Vice President Mike Pence be given the authority to annul the election result.

Lantern objected, saying it was in the hands of Congress, and the petition was denied by the courts.

Traditionally, the vice president has a ceremonial role in approving the results in Congress.

The moves by Trump supporters in both houses will ensure a lengthy discussion, but the chances of a successful move are nil.

Democrats control the House of Representatives, and enough Republican senators have made it clear they recognize Biden's victory.

The 11 senators also admitted that most Democrats and "more than a few Republicans" are likely to oppose their initiative.

One of them is Republican Sen. Pat Tommy of Pennsylvania, who was one of the key states that gave Biden the victory.

Trump supporters are expected to express opposition to its results during congressional debates, which will take place amid demonstrations by Trump supporters in Washington, encouraged by the outgoing president.

"One of the essential characteristics that defines a democratic republic is the right of the people to elect their leaders," Tommy tweeted.

"The effort of Senators Holly, Cruz and others to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in swing states like Pennsylvania directly undermines that right."

He added: "I voted for President Trump and supported his re-election, but on Wednesday I intend to vigorously defend the form of our administration in opposition to the attempt to disqualify millions of voters in my country and others."

Calls on his supporters to go out and demonstrate.

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, one of Trump's most notable critics who lost the 2012 election to Barack Obama, said his Republican counterparts' arguments were "nonsense."

"The scam for rejecting the electorate may strengthen the political aspirations of some of them, but it is a dangerous threat to our democratic republic," Romney said in a statement.

"Members of Congress who replace the courts with their political discretion not only do not improve public trust, but endanger it," he added.

"Do their aspirations exceed the law?".

Senate Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has called on his Republican colleagues to vote in favor of ratifying the results and avoid a political confrontation that would deepen the split.

"The Altcourt friend has his say," McConnell said.

In addition to a seven-million-vote gap, Biden garnered 306 electors compared to 232 received by Trump.

The electors assigned to each of the states are the ones who decide the US presidential election.

However, Lantern, who like Cruz is considered a possible candidate in the 2024 election, encouraged Republicans to discuss allegations of forgery, even though they are unfounded.

"The vice president shares the concern of millions of Americans about forgeries and irregularities in the last election," his chief of staff, Mark Short, told the media.

"The Vice President welcomes the efforts of members of the House and Senate to use the authority they have under the law to raise objections and present evidence to Congress and U.S. citizens on Jan. 6."
