The president of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, spoke about the situation of covid-19 in the country regarding the increase in cases.
Situation that, he pointed out, puts critical care units in the hospitals of the largest cities in the country to the limit.
"We anticipate that in January, beyond the tireless and effective work of the last two weeks to slow down the crowds, there will be a natural consequence of increased infections," Moreno warned this Sunday in a message on the national chain.

He added that, given this alert, the government of Ecuador designed a contingency plan to face the situation of covid-19 in hospitals.
President Moreno asked the authorities of all municipalities in the country to act in line with the provisions of the National Committee for Emergency Operations.

The decision of the Constitutional Court on the situation of covid-19 in Ecuador
On the other hand, Moreno referred to the opinion of the Constitutional Court notified to the Presidency on Saturday night.
The ruling declared the unconstitutionality of the executive decree issued on December 21 in which Moreno ordered a new state of emergency due to "public calamity" due to the covid-19 pandemic in Ecuador.
The measure included new restriction and control measures in the face of the crisis.
The Constitutional Court ruled that the most recent state of emergency "cannot last for the duration of the pandemic and its consequences."
Also that to constitute a public calamity "the facts in which the state of exception is justified must not only be serious but also unpredictable and untimely."

According to the Court, after nine months of pandemic in Ecuador, the situation "ceased to be unforeseen or supervening."
