A male student from the Department of Physiotherapy at PolyU participated in an illegal assembly in Mong Kok the year before last. After being arrested, they were found with scissors and spray paint.

The defense submitted a letter written by the professor to the West Kowloon Court today (4th) to plead for mercy, and pointed out that the defendant needs an internship in May this year. It is hoped that the court will sentence the defendant to imprisonment at a lower starting point for the internship.

However, the magistrate finally adopted the report's recommendations and sentenced the defendant to a rehabilitation center.

The male defendant Cai Songxi (20 years old) is studying in the third grade of the Department of Physiotherapy of PolyU.

He was ruled that on December 31 of the previous year, at the junction of Nathan Road and Lai Chi Kok Road in Mong Kok, he had participated in an illegal assembly and possessed 2 spray paints with other unknown persons.

The charge involving the intent of illegal use of the possession of the cutting pliers is not convicted.

The report obtained by the court earlier showed that the defendant should not be admitted to the labor camp, but suitable for the training camp and the rehabilitation center. Of the two, the rehabilitation center is more suitable.

Some teachers mentioned that the defendant needed to participate in an internship in May this year. The defense submitted the case of Zhong Jiahao, saying that the case was based on 6 months as the starting point for sentencing, and the severity of the case was less serious. He hoped that the court would impose a shorter sentence and sentence it. The defense continued to claim that the defendant was remorseful and described him as enthusiastic about society, growing up in a good family background, and committing crimes impulsively because of social events.

The official said the case was serious

The magistrate considered that the charge was serious and emphasized that the defendant carrying spray paint when participating in an illegal assembly may not only damage others’ property, but may also encourage others to commit crimes.

In accordance with relevant regulations, he also stated that according to the age of the defendant, the court should first consider penalties other than imprisonment, and finally sentence the defendant to a rehabilitation center.
