The Democrats in the US Congress want to hold the incumbent President Donald Trump accountable after the storm on the Capitol - and disempower him.

Next Monday they want to present a draft of the charges with which they want to initiate a second impeachment proceedings against Trump.

According to several media outlets, the US president is accused of "inciting an uprising" in the document, including the MSNBC channel, citing two sources.

According to the draft, Trump deliberately made statements that would have encouraged imminent lawless action at the Capitol.

Insiders also reported that Trump was charged with inciting violence against the US government with the intention of overturning Biden's victory.

"President Trump has seriously endangered the security of the United States and its government institutions," read an indictment circulating in Congress, reports the Reuters news agency.

He threatened the integrity of the democratic system and hindered a peaceful transfer of power.

According to insiders, the charges will be officially presented to the House of Representatives on Monday.

A vote in the chamber could then follow in the course of the week.

House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi has yet to approve the wording.

The draft is said to have been written by Democratic MPs David Cicilline, Ted Lieu and Jamie Raskin.

Lieu wrote on Twitter that the draft had 150 supporters: “Donald Trump deliberately incited his supporters to storm the US Capitol and disrupt the peaceful transition of power.

He must be charged and deposed. "

However, the Senate is responsible for convicting Trump.

Here the Democrats are dependent on the support of the Republicans because they alone cannot get the necessary two-thirds majority of the vote.

While at the first attempt a year ago the chances of a procedural success were bad from the beginning, this time it looks different.

Since the storm on the Capitol on Wednesday, numerous close confidants moved away from Trump.

Critics blame him for the unprecedented riots around Parliament.

They accuse him of inciting his supporters with his repeated - but unsubstantiated - allegations of electoral fraud and, in particular, his call to protest against Biden's victory and the march on the Capitol.

At least one Republican Senator, Ben Sasse, said he was considering supporting impeachment proceedings because Trump had violated his oath of office.

The Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski called on Trump in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News to resign.

"He's done enough damage."

The White House warns of impeachment

The White House has warned of the consequences of yet another impeachment trial against the incumbent US president: “A politically motivated impeachment against a president who did a great job with twelve days left in office will only serve to keep our great country going to split, ”said Speaker Judd Deere.
