Héctor López Ramírez, mayor of Comitancillo, Guatemala, assured in Conclusions that a Guatemalan migrant had called her relatives to warn her that her fellow travelers were being massacred.
The residents of Comitancillo believe that a group of 11 people was part of the 19 charred bodies found in the town of Santa Anita, Tamaulipas, on January 22.
The victims have not yet been identified by Mexican authorities.
Authorities in both countries say they are working together to clarify the facts.
