Benedikt F. from Ottobrunn near Munich became famous overnight.
The 19-year-old got 18 million clicks for a TikTok video in which he jumps off his parents' balcony.
Ottobrunn
- It was by far not his
most spectacular jump.
Nevertheless, he made
Benedikt F.
an
internet star
almost overnight
.
The 19-year-old, who
lives
with his parents in
Ottobrunn near Munich
,
uploaded
a video to the social media platforms
TikTok
and
around two weeks
ago
.
In the short
clip that
a friend captured with the camera, Benedict jumps in
swimming trunks
from
his parents'
balcony
onto a
snow-covered trampoline.
The
video
now
has
18 million views
- on TikTok alone.
Ottobrunn: Benedikt does "flipping" - jumps from cliffs and buildings recorded on video
Benedict practices what is known as
"flipping".
This is what people call it who
professionally
jump
from buildings, bridges, cliffs or other
things
and
record
their sometimes
spectacular stunts
on video.
For around four and a half years Benedikt has been active in the
“Free Arts of Movement” (FAM)
association, in which he
trains three to four times a week
apart from the
corona pandemic
and now also occasionally works as a trainer.
For two years now in another
jumping club
in Munich-Neuperlach.
"I started a new class four years ago, the new
friends
took me there and I've been doing it ever since," said Benedikt in an interview with
Merkur.de *.
Benedikt jumps from his parents' balcony in Ottobrunn - and 18 million TikTok users are watching
He quickly started recording videos of his jumps and
uploading
them to the
Internet
.
“I used to upload Minecraft videos on the internet, so I had some experience with that.
Now I just upload
pinball clips
. ”The training is very free, says the 19-year-old.
You just try it out and if you have any questions, coaches are available.
Basically, "flipping" is a
self-taught sport.
"You always look at what you think you are capable of and then practice that until it works."
He had the idea for the
balcony jump
, which made him famous beyond the borders of Munich, when it
snowed heavily for the first time
in
Ottobrunn
.
"I thought it would
look really cool
if I did a
twist
and then the snow whirled up,
"
said Benedikt,
"then I just jumped off the balcony."
He was okay often jumped from cliffs that were much higher, which is why he
easily dared
to do it
.
“But the 19-year-old misjudged the
height of the balcony.
“It wasn't enough for a twist, so in the end I ended up on my stomach.
So the jump
actually went wrong, ”
said Benedikt.
In another video, in which the 19-year-old jumps from the balcony, he even has to hold on to the trampoline post so that he doesn't fall off.
"Almost died at this one" (
"I almost died with
this one
"
) he wrote about it.
“I just jumped off the balcony”: Benedikt from Ottobrunn becomes famous through TikTok-Clip
He uploaded it anyway.
First, he shared the video with his
TikTok community
, where around 15,000 people followed him at the time.
“I immediately noticed that it was totally going on.
After a few hours, I had 500,000 clicks.
I then thought I was waiting for the million, but
the next morning it was already 6 million
. ”Benedikt's balcony jump now has 18 million clicks on TikTok and around a million clicks on Instagram.
His TikTok community has grown to 45,000 followers.
For Benedikt, who
wants to do
his
Abitur
this year under
Corona conditions
, the video is a
stroke of luck
.
“I had thought
about doing it
professionally
at
some point
.
Really good jumps and
high quality videos.
If I become even better known as a result, it will of course make the start easier, ”said the 19-year-old.
The
flipping community
has grown significantly in recent years, he explains in an interview with
Merkur.de *
, but there are hardly any professional jumpers in Germany.
He wants to change that.
Ottobrunn: Benedikt now known thanks to the balcony jump - his mother still has palpitations
He's now also able to do
four-
fold
somersaults
, says Benedikt.
Last summer he went on vacation alone with friends for the first time,
"for cliff jumping," he
explains.
Two weeks of
stunts from the coast into the sea
- some of the clips can also
be admired
on his
social media platforms
.
His parents let their son do the
hobby
- but it doesn't work completely without worries.
“My
father
is actually quite
relaxed
about that,
but with my
mother
I know that her
heart pounding
every time
she knows that I'm going to jump somewhere again.
She never wants to be there, ”says the 19-year-old with a laugh.
In retrospect, however, she always watches the jumps on video “when she then knows that nothing has happened”, and she thinks that is
“really cool”.
Benedikt from Ottobrunn: First high school graduation, then professional flipping - I have some plans for the summer
Benedict has actually never
injured
himself during one of his jumps.
Only when
running a course
(Obstacle race over buildings etc., note from the Red) he already had ligaments in his foot twice
cracked.
There are also videos of this.
"That was just
really stupid of me
because I somehow overestimated myself, but nothing has ever happened to me while flipping".
Basically, flipping followers are also quite responsible.
"You don't start with the
quadruple somersault
, you always do as much as you think you can and then practice it until it works."
Now the 19-year-old hopes that he will soon be able to make real
cliff jumps
again and, above all,
return to training
.
“I have
some plans for the summer,
” explains the 19-year-old, who of course also wants to offer something to his new and growing community.
He therefore hopes that the
corona situation
will soon ease a little.
Until then, he can at least
jump from his parents' balcony.
