The Board of Trustees and Senate of Ariel University in Samaria will award an honorary doctorate to US Ambassador to Israel (retired) David M. Friedman.

This is the first time the university has awarded such a degree.

The degree will be awarded in recognition of his outstanding contribution to US-Israel diplomatic relations, including the extension of research cooperation agreements between the two countries, emphasizing that there are no limits to research and academia. The university noted that Friedman's assistance in establishing the Adelson Medical School at Ariel University Not only the medical system in Israel, but the entire region.

"Knowing Ambassador Friedman and the U.S. Government that scientific discoveries and research benefit all people, regardless of location, belief or specialization, will allow Ariel University researchers and colleagues in the U.S. to focus on their important scientific work and continue the strong and unbreakable ties between the two universities," Ariel, Prof. Yehuda Danon.

A special ceremony in honor of Ambassador Friedman was scheduled for early January, but due to the corona plague they will have to postpone it.

"We had hoped to award the doctorate in our first honor to Ambassador Friedman before the end of his term, and yet we decided to wait until we could do so with our students, faculty and campus community, to celebrate this important event in a way appropriate to class size," Prof. Danon added.

Asked about receiving the honorary degree from Ariel University, Ambassador Friedman replied: "It is a great honor for me to be the first to receive an honorary doctorate from Ariel University, a world-class academic institution that serves students of all religions and nationalities. Ariel University brings a future of coexistence and peace here and now."
