water levels of the rivers
in
Baden-Württemberg
have risen extremely
from Thursday to Friday and this Friday
.
There is a great
risk of flooding!
Thus, the divided
flood forecasting center Baden-Wuerttemberg
in their annual report with: "On the major rivers of the country - especially in the Baden-Württemberg
Danube
and in the upper reaches of the
Neckar
- a
significant flood
expected."
Weather in Germany: Flood in Baden-Württemberg - Dreisam in Freiburg overflowed
Significant water rises have already been recorded in various bodies of water in the Black Forest (for example Wutach, upper Danube with tributaries, upper Neckar with tributaries), in rivers of the Swabian Alb as well as in Upper Swabia (Schussen) and in Allgäu (Argen).
"Further, sometimes rapid water level rises are expected," said the management report.
Even more: According to the regularly updated flood map of the
State Agency for the Environment Baden-Württemberg,
there are already
floods
in several places across the entire state
, for example on the
Dreisam in the Black Forest
, on the
Rhine
near
Maxau / Karlsruhe
and the Swiss border as well on the
Neckar
near Horb and Rottweil.
According to reports, one focus is currently the
Dreisam
.

"It starts snowing from East Frisia all the way down to the Lausitz - and sometimes there is a lot of snow," explained Meteorole
Jan Schenk
from
The Weatherchannel
.
From East Frisia to Magdeburg it could snow up to 20 centimeters.
"To the south it can also be sleet or wet snow, but the snowfall has
shifted
somewhat to the
north
."
It should also snow
in
Hamburg
and
Berlin
.
While Jan Schenk speaks of up to ten centimeters, the German Weather Service warns of amounts of snow of one to eight centimeters.
In the night of Saturday it will even snow in Kiel and probably also in Rostock.
"The most striking snowfall so far this winter in northern Germany is just around the corner," said Schenk, and the snow should stay there for the time being.
From Saturday, the snowfall in the northern parts of Germany should then decrease somewhat and
shift
towards the
south
again
.
“Then on Sunday there will be a
new
layer of
snow
on top,” the weather expert predicted.
Weather: The next snow roller is rolling towards Germany - expert reports from three low pressure areas
Update from January 28th, 9:35 p.m.:
Continuous rain and thaw determine the next few days - especially in southern Germany, this means the
risk of flooding
.
Equal to
three low pressure systems
- "Nicolai", "Olaf" and Peter "- bringing to Sunday sometimes very heavy rainfall with it.
As on Thursday, it rains almost continuously on Friday, explains
Veronika Krieger
, meteorologist at
weatherchannel.com
, and knows: "And on Saturday it will be wet again!" While it
stays rather cool
in
north-east
Germany and in Berlin and Hamburg can even snow, the temperatures in the
south-west should be
very mild.
The snow in
Munich
could soon be a thing of the past, as the
snow front is
shifting further north.
Especially in the Black Forest, Upper Swabia, Franconian Switzerland and the Rhön, the
weather expert
warns of moderate
floods
.
The
water level highs
await you here on Friday, and downstream you will then arrive somewhat delayed.
On the Upper Rhine, the level could then reach a level that could even paralyze shipping.
In small and medium-sized rivers,
warnings are issued
about
two to ten years of flooding
, while the peak values on larger rivers such as the Main or the Danube should only reach
warning level 1
.
Furthermore, it should remain very wet and unstable, so that the flood situation could "worsen" again at the beginning of the week, warns Krieger.
Video: Thaw and continuous rain exacerbate the risk of flooding in the south
Original article dated January 28, 2021:
Munich - The weather situation in Germany is tense: A
striking air mass
boundary is forming across Germany
,
warns the
German Weather Service (DWD)
.
This
border
extends
from the Münsterland to the Upper Palatinate
.
And according to the DWD weather experts, it will only
move south
on
Saturday
.
The weather map looks “colorful”, tweeted the DWD.
Heavy snowfall - up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow falls here
Such weather conditions are tough, especially on the border between warm and cold air.
“The warm air has a lot more water with it than the cold air could even carry.
And the cold air close to the ground ensures new snowfalls.
This is also called a
countercurrent situation,
”explains meteorologist Jan Schenk from
The Weather Channel.
In Bremen, Hanover, Dresden or Braunschweig, quantities of up to
20 centimeters are
in it.
So watch out!
“It is the most striking weather situation that is ahead of us this winter,” says the weather frog.
Weather in Germany: The next snow roller is rolling in - winter is coming back
In the
south
and in the
middle,
the DWD is currently warning of a
strong thaw
.
Mild and humid air flows into the southwest.
In addition, heavy rains are on the approach.
In the
Black Forest
and in the
Alpine region
, a
“storm-like thaw”
sets in
with discharge volumes of up to 1.6 liters in stagnant locations of up to 1.8 liters.
There is a risk of flooding!
First on small streams and then later on larger rivers.
In
contrast,
cold air prevails in the
north
and
east
.
Heavy snowfall
is the order of the day from East Westphalia to southern Lower Saxony to Vogtland and northeast Bavaria, sometimes as heavy
wet snow
.
The permanent snowfall starts on Friday morning and lasts until Saturday.
Weather in Germany: is winter back in Germany this weekend?
On Saturday the snowfall will then move further south!
But the "snow roller from the north is running out of air a bit", suspects weather expert Jung.
From the Eifel to Franconia, the snowfall line moves from the north, according to the DWD.
It then also starts to snow again in the Alps.
"Such an air mass limit is
extreme
when it
comes to the potential
for surprises," says meteorologist Dominik Jung from the weather
portal wetter.net
.
At the beginning of the new week, in his opinion, the weather situation is still completely unclear.
