The perfumery chain Douglas is planning deep cuts in its branch network.

The group takes particularly tough action in large cities.
Düsseldorf - The perfumery chain Douglas is using the red pencil with the planned streamlining of its German branch network, especially in cities with multiple locations.

The company plans to close four branches in each of the two major cities.

According to the plans, the two locations in the Bavarian capital, Passauer Strasse (May 31st) and Leopoldstrasse (July 31st) are to be closed for good.
Douglas closed the shops on Sendlinger and Neuhauser Strasse on January 31st.
In
Cologne
* it hits the Douglas stores on Ehrenstrasse, Hohe Strasse
,
Neusser Strasse and the
Sülzburgstrasse.
The corresponding rental contracts there expire on June 30th.
In
Hamburg
, the perfumery chain is giving up its stores on Claus-Ferck-Strasse (May 31st), Europassage (September 30th) and Neue Große Bergstrasse (May 31st).
In addition, the company pulls the
plug
in the shops in the EKZ in
Frankfurt
(31.1.22) and the EKZ in
Kassel
(30.9.) As well as in the Königstrasse in
Stuttgart
(30.6.).
In all cities, however, the company remains represented with at least one shop.

.
The only shop will close at the end of the year, said a Douglas spokeswoman.
When evaluating the branches, economic efficiency, long-term development prospects, the environment and local overlaps were taken into account, a company spokeswoman said on request.
The planned closings affect “in particular loss-making branches and branches without sufficient economic and strategic future prospects”.
Earlier branch closings have also shown that many customers switched to surrounding Douglas branches or the company's online shop.

Douglas announced deep cuts in its branch network at the end of January.
In Germany alone, the company plans to close a total of 60 of its 430 locations.
600 employees have to go.
Around 500 of the 2,400 perfumeries to date are affected by the plans across Europe.
More and more customers are now buying online, Douglas boss Tina Müller had said as a reason.
This trend was further accelerated by Corona.
However, one is confident that the reduced branch network will be "sustainable" for the next few years, it said.
The perfumery chain caused outrage across the country in December after it surprisingly converted some perfumeries into drugstores at the beginning of the second lockdown in order to bypass the closings in the retail sector.
In view of the fierce criticism, however, Douglas boss Müller rowed back in a hurry.
