The pacts, formerly on the right or on the left, recently determined by the position of the parties on the independence issue, are a constant in Catalan political life.

It is the only alliance that is not ruled out a priori by its possible members, already partners of the outgoing government.
Since 2017, the presidency has been held by Junts (heirs of moderate center-right nationalism, now radicalized separatists), who came first in the independence camp, the vice-presidency in Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC, long-standing center-left independentist, now a supporter of dialogue with Madrid)… until President Quim Torra was removed from office for disobedience and replaced by his vice-president, Pere Aragones, by interim.
In practice, each party would especially like to renew the alliance if it gets ahead of its enemy brother.
