Wörth / Hörlkofen - Neighborhood Aid Wörth / Hörlkofen did well in the crisis year 2020. There was more demand for senior citizens' meals, and the call to attract younger people to work met with a great response.

Wörth / Hörlkofen - New ways to support people in difficult life situations: The Wörth / Hörlkofen neighborhood help cooperates with Caritas in order to be able to provide targeted help to citizens in need.

This was presented by chairmen Gerhard Frühhe and Angelika Stempel in a press conference

Often the neighborhood help does not find out where it could provide support.

The need usually remains hidden, the limits of shame are great.

People in need would therefore not necessarily seek help in their own living environment.

“People in an emergency often turn to Caritas,” explains Frühhe.

If citizens from the municipality of Wörth take this step, the neighborhood help receives anonymous feedback from Caritas, which also checks the respective concern.

“We do not find out who that person is,” assures the chairman.

With Caritas as an intermediary, neighborhood help can “help from afar”.

A certain budget is available for this.

Early: “Now let's see how this is accessed.” The neighborhood help expects hardship cases precisely because of the pandemic and the financial losses it entails in professional life.

In addition to family support, the non-profit association offers memory training with three specially trained volunteer course instructors.

Around 15 volunteers act as reading mentors, and there is the dwarf garden for looking after small children.

Senior meals with delivery service is also offered.

The fresh dishes come from the butcher's Holzer / Gantner in Wifling.

“In the Corona year 2020, we delivered almost 3,500 senior citizens' meals, around ten percent more than in 2019, at a flat price of 6.50 euros.

We were able to cover the deficit of around 2,000 euros with donations, ”says Früh.

The delivery of the meals is contactless.

A survey showed that all customers are very satisfied with the quality, quantity and options.

The five-person delivery team is equipped with FFP2 masks and gloves.

Even if a large safety distance has to be maintained at the moment, the food trips are a safety anchor, especially for single people.

Earlier told of an old lady who had fallen in her house.

A helper saw the woman lying on the floor through the window and immediately got help.

Fortunately, the victim was uninjured, but was unable to stand up on her own.

With the exception of the senior citizens' meal, all work areas were "massively affected" in 2020 because of the two lockdowns - a development that Wörth shares with other neighborhood helpers.

The stakes have decreased by 40 percent compared to the previous year.

300 missions and 500 hours of use were recorded.

The chairmen were very pleased that the public appeal during the first wave to win over younger people for missions met with a great response.

“More than 40 people got in touch,” says Frühhe.

“This willingness to help is enormous,” added Stempel.

The initiative took place with a view to the increased risk for the elderly helpers as a preventive measure in the pandemic.

Chairwoman Angelika Stempel informs about a new, creative project for memory training in times of Corona.

Since meetings are currently not possible, a barrier-free and cross-generational path of thought with professionally elaborated boards for perception, reflection and lingering is to be set up on public property.

There has already been a meeting with the community: "There is great support there."

The chairmen thanked for the willingness to donate, which made it possible to compensate for financial deficits in the crisis year 2020.

The local newspaper's readers' aid organization also supports the work.
