The princess of Dubai, Sheikha Latifa, said in a video broadcast by the BBC that she is being held in a family compound "which has been turned into a prison" without access to medical assistance. She is the daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Emir of Dubai and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. She tried to flee abroad in 2018 and was last seen in March of that same year aboard a yacht, before the Indian and Emirati security forces took her back to Dubai. CNN has not been able to independently verify the authenticity of the video in which Latifa appears and is awaiting comment from the Dubai government. For its part, the UN Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances reported that it would analyze the case. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates Embassy in the United Kingdom issued a statement thanking those who have expressed concern for Latifa's well-being, "despite the fact that the media coverage does not reflect the real situation." In addition, he said that "her family has confirmed that the princess is being treated at home with medical assistance" and that "they expect her to return to public life at the right time." Guillermo Arduino interviewed Tiina Jauhiainen, a friend of the princess of Dubai, who assures that he helped her filter the recordings made in April 2019 and explains why she is so worried about her.
