Teachers and educators have moved forward in prioritizing vaccinations.

Many still have to wait - but the first have already received their vaccinations.

  • Teachers, educators and employees in schools and daycare centers are given priority vaccination against corona.

  • In the district of Dachau there is therefore a large flu vaccination, in which 600 educators are immunized with the Astrazeneca vaccine.

  • Elsewhere it will take a while before it is their turn.

Dachau - Beate Rexhäuser didn't have to think twice when the e-mail came from the Dachau District Office on Wednesday: "I signed up for the vaccination right away," she says.

Rexhäuser is a teacher at a primary school in the Dachau district - and with that she moved forward in the vaccination sequence this week.

Still, she would never have thought that it would be so fast.

"I was positively surprised."

Because yesterday, the 63-year-old got the prick - like many other teachers and educators who live in the Dachau district.

A group vaccination campaign started there at noon: By next Saturday, more than 600 employees from primary and special schools and daycare centers will be vaccinated in the local medical care center and ten other medical practices.

"Everyone is highly motivated," emphasizes the Dachau medical doctor Christian Günzel.

At the start of the Corona * vaccinations, Dachau had its own vaccination portal, which is now being used again for registering for group vaccinations.

"We are essentially through with the vaccinations for medical staff," reports Günzel.

Astrazeneca is used for vaccination.

“The vaccine is well received here,” he says.

"He's going out as soon as he comes."

The Dachau elementary school teacher Carolyn Casensky, who was also on Friday, had no concerns.

“I trust what science says,” explains the 25-year-old.

As a jumper, she often has contact with many different students.

"That's why I was really happy that the vaccination went so quickly and without any problems."

Regional differences in the allocation of appointments

Many other educators, however, have to wait.

“It varies greatly from region to region whether there are already appointments,” reports Simone Fleischmann, President of the Bavarian Teachers' Association (BLLV).

Her impression: "There is a high willingness to vaccinate in schools," she says.

"The vaccination prioritization should definitely be extended to other types of schools."

But often elementary school teachers and educators, who are now grouped in the second priority level, are not yet their turn.

"We still vaccinate the first priority group," says Barbara Beck from the Starnberg district office, for example.

"It will still take some time." One thing is decisive, explains Wolfgang Rotzsche, spokesman for the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office: "We always depend on how much vaccine we get."

Police officers are also offered vaccinations

From Tuesday there will also be a vaccination offer for many Bavarian police officers who are exposed to a high risk of infection when on patrol, for example.

The Interior Ministry announced that 10,000 Astrazeneca vaccine doses are available for them.

The teachers from Dachau initially tolerated their vaccination well.

"School has to function normally again at some point," says Beate Rexhäuser, who has been working in emergency care over the past few months.

“And that is only possible with the vaccination.

It is a further step towards normality. ”-
