(CNN Spanish) -
Vaccine advisers from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) voted Friday to recommend that the agency grant an emergency use authorization to the vaccine against the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus.
The FDA Vaccines and Related Biologicals Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) voted unanimously to recommend authorization of the vaccine in individuals 18 years of age and older.
If the FDA acts on the recommendation, and is expected to do so quickly, the vaccine will become the third licensed for use in the US.
It will be the first single-injection vaccine and one that can be stored in regular refrigerators, making it easier to distribute than the more delicate Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, which require two doses.
