In the ongoing protests against the military coup in Myanmar, eyewitnesses and media reports have reported eight deaths and numerous injuries since Friday evening.
In the former capital Yangon (formerly Rangoon), three people were killed when security forces acted "very brutally" against demonstrators in several districts on Friday evening, as reported by journalists on Saturday morning according to the German press agency.
An eyewitness and journalist reported that three other demonstrators were killed on Saturday during protests in the city of Mandalay in the center of the Southeast Asian country.
There the police tried to crush the protests with gunshots.
Two demonstrators were also killed in protests in Pyay on Saturday, radio station Radio Free Asia reported.
In the former Burma, the military couped to power on February 1st.
Since then there have been repeated mass protests.
However, so far these have mostly taken place during the day.
The police and army are reacting increasingly brutally to the protests.
Dozens of people have already been shot and many more injured.
Since the military came to power, tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets.
They demand the release of the de facto head of government Aung San Suu Kyi and the reinstatement of the elected government.
The demonstrators also oppose the night curfew.
The security forces apparently also use deadly force in a targeted manner.
According to UN figures, more than 70 people have been killed since the coup on February 1.
In addition to operations against demonstrators, reports of night patrols and arrests have recently increased.
A video shared on online networks Friday night and verified by the AFP news agency showed police officers dragging, beating and dragging three people into the street in Yangon's Thaketa district.
