In Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg, the current Prime Minister can continue to rule.
According to initial forecasts for the state elections, Malu Dreyer's SPD in Rhineland-Palatinate has 33.5 to 34.5 percent, in Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann's Greens are clearly ahead with 31 to 31.5 percent.
The CDU crashes in both federal states on its worst result so far.
In Rhineland-Palatinate, the CDU came according to the forecast to 25.5 to 26 percent.
The Greens improve their result significantly: They are seen in the forecasts between 8.5 and 9.5 percent.
In the state elections in 2016, they came to 5.3 percent.
The AfD gets 10.5 percent in both forecasts, after 12.6 percent.
The FDP receives 6.5 percent, after 6.2 percent five years ago.
For the first time, the free voters can hope for a move into the state parliament: They are therefore 5.5 percent.
In Baden-Württemberg, the CDU probably only achieved 23 percent.
The SPD (10.5 to 12 percent) and AfD (11.5 to 12.5 percent) must also accept losses.
There is obviously a significant increase in the FDP, which after 8.3 percent in 2016 now comes to eleven to 11.5 percent.
Left and free voters are likely to miss the leap into the Stuttgart state parliament with 3.5 and 3 percent respectively.
Dreyer's traffic light coalition can probably continue to govern in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The SPD, Greens and FDP would therefore have 54 seats in the state parliament, 51 are enough for a majority.
However, the results are not yet certain at this point in time: The unusually high number of postal votes this year make the first forecasts and projections more difficult.
