Is Hezbollah worried about the possibility of a change of direction in Russia?
The Russian newspaper Niznisimya Gazeta revealed today (Tuesday) that the Hezbollah delegation, which arrived in the Russian capital today, presented the Russian foreign minister with questions about Russia's intentions regarding the Assad regime.
According to journalist Igor Sobotin, the Lebanese terrorist organization is concerned about Moscow's plans to establish a "military council" in Syria, which will also be composed of opposition elements, with the aim of ending the bloody civil war in the country.
Hezbollah is also concerned about a possible repression of its ally, Iran, from Syria.
The concern apparently stems from rumors circulating in the Arab world media about a meeting between senior Russian officials and opposition man Monaf Talas, who is considered a Turkish ally and Russia's ongoing reluctance to accept Iran's presence in the country it has sponsored.
Various media outlets have even raised the possibility that Moscow is using a program to establish a "military council" as a tool to dampen Assad's ability to reduce Iran's influence and presence, thus establishing a regime that loves Moscow without competition from the Iranian side.
Hezbollah has denied reports that it has questioned the fate of Assad's rule to the Russians, the Russian news network RT reported.
The head of the Russian delegation, Muhammad Raed, said the conversation with Lavrov was "honest" and that they discussed Lebanon's internal affairs.
