Nicaragua receives 135,000 vaccines against covid-19, as part of Covax

Nicaragua will receive this Tuesday 135,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine against the coronavirus, which were acquired through the Covax mechanism.

Nicaragua will receive this Tuesday 135,000 doses of the Covishield vaccine against the coronavirus, which were manufactured in India and acquired through the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization.

This was reported on Monday by the vice president and government spokesperson, Rosario Murillo, to official media.

According to the health authorities, with these doses the so-called Voluntary Vaccination Program that began on March 2 in two hospitals in Managua will be followed.

Initially, the plan was aimed at patients with kidney, cancer and heart problems.

Already the second phase will be extended to state workers.

The exact number of people vaccinated so far in Nicaragua is unknown.

Until March 16, the Ministry of Health registers 6,582 infections of covid-19 and 176 deaths from the disease.

Although it also recognizes, without specifying the number, other deaths from chronic or pre-existing conditions.

In contrast, the count of the Covid-19 Citizen Observatory until March 10 accumulates 13,237 verified suspected cases and 3,002 deaths from pneumonia or possible covid-19 in the country.
