The corona pandemic has spawned many creative ideas.

For example Bavaria's first pub drive-in counter in Anzing.

He's now celebrating his 1st birthday.

Anzing

- Happy 1st birthday, Anzinger Kirchenwirt!

Yes, you read it correctly and saw it: on the weekend, the family-run traditional inn opposite the parish church celebrated its birthday - with colorful balloons and cake.

However, it was an unusual birthday that was never thought to be possible a year ago: a year of “tavern drive-in”.

Corona in the Ebersberg district: tavern drive-in counter is celebrating its first birthday

Barbara Stadler, daughter of the couple Bernhard Mittermeier and Gabriele Stadler, had the idea for the drive-in counter a year ago.

Born out of necessity, because the gastronomy (not only that) had to close in the first corona lockdown.

A year ago, the Kirchenwirt Anzing made it into the national media with his idea of “roast pork to go”, which you can collect by car at your own counter.

To this day, the self-made drive-in counter is an integral part of the family business - and will remain so.

Even if the catering trade is allowed to open again as it used to.

“You have to see how the pub culture will develop after Corona anyway.

We will continue to offer our pub drive-in in the future, ”says Barbara Stadler.

Corona: Tavern drive-in in Anzing - the classic is the onion roast beef

Because people will probably continue to collect more food themselves in the future in order to bring the pub feeling back home.

The 33-year-old landlady believes that this could be a consequence of the corona pandemic.

Last summer, when the corona measures were relaxed and pubs and beer gardens were open, the drive-in counter was still well frequented.

On rainy days anyway.

After the early weeks, it was not the roast pork that turned out to be a classic at the drive-in, but the roast onion, reports Stadler.

Anzing: Drive-in remains, even after the lockdown

As in a normal inn, there are also regulars at the drive-in.

"Some come every Friday, some every Sunday." Some even to celebrate something special: "Once a family drove up in a camper and celebrated their father's birthday in the car park." The family had previously asked the Kirchenwirt if it is possible that the food can be served in the camper, says the landlady.

Of course, in compliance with all corona rules.

And so a household (father, mother and children) celebrated dad's birthday in a camper at the Kirchenwirt's.

“We are positive thinkers,” says Barbara Stadler about herself and her family.

Her parents Bernhard Mittermeier and Gabriele Stadler as well as her siblings Benno Stadler and Balthasar Mittermeier always come up with something to not only keep the company going, but to shape it creatively.

Gastronomy in lockdown: hosts with creative ideas - "We are positive thinkers"

For example, by setting up a "buddy table" after Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, tried to explain in simple language last year who is allowed to sit with whom in the beer garden.

At Christmas, the host family built and set up a gingerbread house.

And two years ago Gabriele and her daughter Barbara Stadler launched the brand “Die Elli”.

Self-designed Bavarian fashion and creations that mix tradition with flair and modernity.

The inn is like the showroom, explains Barbara Stadler.

Due to Corona, it is currently only open in “Click & Meet” mode, the display of “This Elli” can be viewed in the shop window - right next to the Bavarian drive-in counter.
