Bolsonaro replaces six ministers in one day

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro replaced six of his ministers on Monday.

The changes point to an effort to ensure more loyalty to its guidelines.

The now former ministers released the resignation letters throughout the day.

Army General Fernando Azevedo published a statement in which he affirmed that he had "preserved the Armed Forces as an institution of the State."

Attorney General Andre Levi also published a resignation letter, a common ritual in Brazil.

Levi did not sign a lawsuit filed on March 18 by order of Bolsonaro in the Supreme Court against the confinement measures adopted by three governors.

The court denied the claim because it needed the backing of the Attorney General's Office to have legal validity.

Andre Mendonca, a former Minister of Justice, was appointed attorney general.

The head of the Federal Police, Anderson Torres, a friend of the Bolsonaro family, was appointed to fill Mendonca's former position as Minister of Justice.

Bolsonaro appointed General Braga Netto as Defense Minister.

General Luiz Eduardo Ramos, former Secretary of State, is the new Minister of Government.

For her part, Federal Deputy Flavia Arruda assumed her former position as Secretary of State.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ernesto Araujo, was replaced by Carlos Alberto França.

These changes place the army generals closest to Bolsonaro in more strategic positions.
