"Idiot son of a ...": Donald Trump insults the leader of the Republicans in the Senate

2021-04-11T21:56:03.411Z

The ex-president has taken a new step forward in his attacks on Mitch McConnell, using a particularly crass slap in the face

He did not hide that he wanted to return to the forefront of the political scene.

For this, Donald Trump does not shrink from any excess or attack, exactly as he did in the White House.

This time around, his target is Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republicans in the Senate.

The billionaire insulted him on Saturday night during a speech to an audience of donors in Florida, where he resides, indicate several American media.

The ex-president raged against his former ally who, he said, did not help him block, on January 6, the official certification of the results of the presidential election in November, the Washington Post said.

"If it was Schumer (Leader of the Democrats in the Senate Editor's note) instead of that jerk off son of a bitch Mitch McConnell, they would never have allowed this to happen."

They would have fought it, ”he said of the certification of the January 6 election.

The same sad day his supporters led an insurgency on Capitol Hill to block Joe Biden's official victory, triggering clashes that left 4 dead and several dozen injured.

Trump is particularly targeting McConnell because he is the most powerful Republican elected official in the country and wants to push him to quit what he considers his party.

Because the situation of the billionaire is not so enviable since he left the White House.

His businesses are struggling financially and he himself is exposed to possible criminal investigations into his affairs and actions as president.

"We don't need this"

Since his defeat last November, Trump has been hammering, without evidence, that the ballot was rigged.

In February, he had already marked the break with Mitch McConnell by describing him as a "scowling, sullen politician", and by asserting that the Republican Party would come out the loser with such an official among its leaders.

The former president, however, worked hand in hand for four years with the senator from Kentucky, a skilful strategist and connoisseur of the intricacies of Capitol Hill.

But the latter declared him "responsible" for the murderous assault on the Capitol, judging that the rioters had acted thus "because the most powerful man on the planet had fed them with lies".

Asked about Donald Trump's remarks, the Republican Governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, admitted that his party could have done without this latest controversy.

“Somehow it doesn't really matter what he said, but at the same time, every time it gets talked about, we don't need it.

We need unity, to focus together (...).

We have battles to fight, ”he told CNN on Sunday.
