The Mexican Chamber of Deputies approved this Friday a judicial reform that includes a transitory article, considered by many to be unconstitutional.
The reform project extends the mandate of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Federal Judicial Council, Arturo Zaldívar, for two more years, until 2024, the same year that the president of the country, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, should end his term of government of six years.
Arturo Zaldívar, president of the Supreme Court of Justice and of the Federal Judicial Council of Mexico.
The measure was approved with 260 votes in favor, 167 against and 2 abstentions.
The project is approved in general, but with reservations.
That is, it could be modified and if so, it would return to the Senate.
