The sirens wail every day.

Again and again people have to get to safety - in the Gaza Strip as well as here in southern Israel.

Hila Geva, baker:

“This phase of the war is tougher than the last.

I realize that my little child is panic.

I have to take her out so she can breathe, calm down.

I talk to her and try not to listen to the news at home.

She is very scared.

We stay in the basement with the whole family, we sleep there together.

But my little kids are very, very scared.

I have to give them sedatives. "

Civilians on both sides of the border are suffering from the attacks.

The home of a Palestinian family in Gaza City was hit in an Israeli air strike on Sunday.

Six-year-old Suzy was rescued from the rubble after seven hours.

At the hospital, she met her father again - the only other survivor in her family.

Riyad Eshkuntana, survivor:

“In her final moments, my wife threw herself on the floor and then concrete fell on her head.

We didn't think the ceiling and walls would collapse.

(...) I was filled with all the anger of the universe.

But when I heard that one of my daughters was alive, I said thank God. "

The family felt safe because doctors lived in the same building - and because of the shelter that not all houses in Gaza have.

It was of no use.

Riyad Eshkuntana, survivor:

“Just before the explosion, we sat in the living room and put the girls to bed.

I have three girls and two boys.

We always put them in a shelter to sleep.

If there's an air raid near the road, keep them as far away from the explosions as possible. "

Many Palestinians in Gaza are trapped between the radical Islamic groups and the Israeli military, which has been bombing a Hamas tunnel system for days.

Hamas, in turn, fired more than 2,800 rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israel in the past week.

One of them hit the Waizmann family's house next door on Friday.

Sarit Waizmann, beautician:

“I got in the shower and my husband told me to duck when the rocket alarm went off.

As I was washing my hair, I heard the siren.

I ran into the living room immediately, but couldn't make it into the safe room.

I sat in the corner of the living room, as close to the wall as possible. "

Shrapnel struck the shower.

The pregnant woman was lucky: she and her unborn child were unharmed.

The neighbors were able to save themselves in their shelter.

The rocket attacks on Israel so far have killed ten people.

The Israeli government said there were also two children among the victims.

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 198 people, including 58 children, have died in Gaza since the escalation began.

Israel's army claims to be trying to prevent civilian casualties.

Hamas accuses them of hiding in densely populated areas and using civilians as protective shields.
