Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was re-elected for a seven-year term with 95.1% of the vote, the Speaker of Parliament announced on Thursday (May 27), following a poll criticized by the opposition and Western countries .

The two other candidates who presented themselves in front of him, Abdallah Salloum Abdallah and Mahmoud Mareï, obtained respectively 1.5% and 3.3% of the vote.
