Actually, Peter Boeckendorf from Peißenberg just wanted to take a leisurely ride on his e-mountain bike.

But the tour ended with a rescue operation by the bunting.

Böbing / Peißenberg - Around 5 p.m. Peter Boeckendorf from Peißenberg wanted to “go on a leisurely bike tour”, as he says.

From Peißenberg it should go back via Peiting and Rottenbuch.

Since he didn't want to take the normal road from Rottenbuch to Peißenberg, Boeckendorf looked for - and found - a way using the hiking and cycling app "Komoot".

"But towards the end the road got worse and worse."

Lost with the e-bike: after 15 minutes the cyclist came to the bunting

Boeckendorf still thought nothing of it, because there are always bad roads and there was no sign that indicated that the path should not be used.

Only when he came to a landslide did Boeckendorf realize that it couldn't go any further.

"But then I saw footprints and thought there was a way around the outside, as is often the case when there is an obstacle in the way."

Boeckendorf therefore continued on his way - always along the slope until he was at the Ammer after around 15 minutes.

“In retrospect, I know that this decision started my little drama.

But afterwards you are known to be always smarter, "says the 60-year-old.

Of course, Boeckendorf tried to get up the slope again when he realized that he had to cut through thick undergrowth and keep branches away from his face in order to get ahead.

“But I didn't get up because the slope was very muddy.

The ground literally slipped from under my feet. "

E-biker gets lost on the bunting: he called the police with only ten percent battery

So he went on along the banks of the Ammer - now without his bike.

"I unscrewed the battery and left it there," says Boeckendorf.

Because with the e-bike in his luggage he wouldn't have gotten any further.

It was now 8 p.m. and it was getting darker and darker.

To be on the safe side, he called a friend and told her about his situation.

"I asked her to call the police if I didn't get in touch with her by midnight."

But actually Boeckendorf did not want to be saved. He was aware that it would take a while before he could find a steady path again, "but I thought, 'I can do it'" ". Around 10 p.m. Boeckendorf noticed that his cell phone only had ten percent battery. So he decided to inform the police that the friend who reported him missing might call at midnight. "The policeman from the emergency number gave me to understand that I shouldn't move from the place," says the Peißenberger. The officer sent him a tracking text message and informed the police from Schongau in whose area the rescue operation took place.

The patrol arrived after about 20 minutes - Boeckendorf was around 400 meters north of Gut Osterwald near Böbing, as the police reported.

But how does Boeckendorf get to the officials on the other bank, except through the ice-cold bunting?

"We thought back and forth for a long time about the best option and then came to the conclusion that I have to get over the bunting somehow."

Rescue operation: Policeman took off his uniform and jumped into the bunting

Boeckendorf never thought that the policeman who was there with his colleague would intervene so courageously.

Because the officer got rid of his uniform - "so that he does not have to spend the rest of the service with wet pants," as Boeckendorf suspects - and jumped into the bunting.

“We met in the middle and supported each other,” says Boeckendorf.

In the end all went well and they reached the other bank.

The two police officers finally drove the Peißenberger home around 11 p.m.

“I am really very grateful to the two officers.

You really helped me with the utmost commitment, ”says Boeckendorf.

But the overexertion made itself felt pretty quickly: “I could hardly sleep at night.” In addition, one question still preoccupied him: How can he get his eMTB back?

Very simple: Boeckendorf picked it up the following day by car - again through the Ammer.

It happens again and again that hikers or cyclists get lost or get lost in the terrain.

For example in Jachenau.
