Former world champion
Sergio Víctor Palma
is hospitalized in the city of Mar del Plata after having contracted coronavirus.
The former
boxer from Chaco, 65, was referred from the seaside resort of Villa Gesell to the Mar del Plata Interzonal Hospital, according to the specialized site
"A la vera del ring ".
Palma has been treated, for some time, for a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) that impaired his physical movements.
He had also been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
The Chaco reached boxing glory in August 1980, when he beat the American Leo Randolph by knockout in Spokane, United States, and won the world title of the super roosters version World Boxing Association (WBA).

Palma successfully defended the crown on five occasions and finally lost it in June 1982, when he lost in Miami (USA) to the Dominican Leonardo Cruz, on points, in a unanimous decision.
The Chaco tried a return to the ring, after having announced his retirement from the activity in the mid-1980s, and made his last fight in August 1990, when he defeated Juan Domingo Nogueira.

At the end of his professional career, Palma had 62 fights, with 52 victories (20 on the fast track), 5 defeats and 5 draws.
