Altomünster

- After 20 years, the dog regulation of the Altomünster market expired in March.

That is why the market town council passed a new ordinance in its most recent meeting, which provides for tightening in some points, primarily for large dogs and attack dogs.

Leash compulsory for attack dogs

From now on, attack dogs are required to be kept on a leash in all public facilities and on all public paths, streets and squares in the entire municipality. The obligation to leash does not exist in the undeveloped areas of the community area, provided that the nearest buildings are more than 100 meters away and there is no other person within 50 meters. In addition, attack dogs and large dogs are not allowed to enter cemeteries and public children's playgrounds. This also includes football fields and similar leisure facilities as well as children's playgrounds that are privately owned (e.g. the church) and are still open to the public. “Of course, the playgrounds in your own garden are not one of them,” says managing director Christian Richter.

The line must be tear-proof and must not exceed a length of two meters.

In addition, a slip-proof collar is mandatory.

Large dogs are dogs that are at least 50 centimeters tall at the shoulder.

This always includes shepherds, boxers, Dobermans and Great Danes.

The local council wants to keep an eye on animal welfare

Guide dogs or herding dogs, among others, are exempt from the obligation to leash.

Nevertheless, the committee had animal welfare in mind and therefore spoke out against a general leash obligation.

Unless they are attack dogs, free exercise may be granted in the undeveloped areas as long as the nearest buildings are more than 30 meters away and there are no children playing or events taking place in the vicinity.

Of course, the subject of dog legacies came up once again.

Josef Riedlberger (CSU) had observed, for example, that dog waste is collected, but the bags are then left behind on the premises.

Markus Hagl (FWG) suggested that the administration buy waxed paper bags for the containers.

"I am convinced that the majority of dog owners properly dispose of their leftovers," emphasized Hubert Güntner (FWG).

Nevertheless, mutual consideration should also be addressed in the next newsletter, because Elisabeth Glas (FWG) asked that dogs not run across meadows and fields during the growing season.

The answers to questions about the number of registered dogs (Elisabeth Glas) and the number of fighting dogs in particular (Susanne Köhler, FDP) will be submitted by Christian Richter. All in all, the manager made it clear that “in practice, fortunately, there is little cause for concern”.
