Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that relations between Russia and the European Union have become hostage to the "Russian-phobia approach" instigated by some of the new EU countries.
TASS news agency quoted Peskov as saying in an interview with Rossiya 1 TV channel: "As for Russia's relations with Brussels, as we see, according to recent events, it has become hostage to the Russophobic approach of the new Europeans and Poland, who adopt a very intransigent position. The threats you see in Russia and at the same time take the path of escalating tension, opening its lands to NATO aircraft, and deploying American forces on its lands.”
He added that Russia, for its part, sees American or NATO soldiers getting closer and closer to its borders, and its logical response would be to take measures to ensure its security.
Regarding relations with Germany, France and Italy, Peskov indicated that they are positive, as there is trade, economic and investment cooperation with these countries despite all the difficulties.
In addition, the Russian spokesman warned that Ukraine's efforts to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO" will undermine efforts to normalize relations between it and Russia and will in fact add more tension along the border between the two countries and will exacerbate tensions throughout Europe.
"This matter is worrying and dangerous, and for these reasons Moscow has taken the necessary measures to ensure the security of its borders and to maintain military parity on the European continent," he added.
Peskov pointed out that Ukraine is not an independent country and is under the influence of the United States and hopes, through its hypothetical acceptance in this anti-Russian military alliance (in reference to NATO), to be able to solve its internal problems, especially the Donbass issue.
Peskov stressed that Moscow is aware of the threats posed by Ukraine's ambitions, President Putin and Russian leaders are already interested in taking security measures and measures that will serve as a guarantee in case Kiev continues its provocative actions.
