Baumgartenstrasse: Committee calls for a decision

Blocking a section of Baumgartenstrasse in Holzkirchen, which would turn it into a dead end from two sides, is still controversial.

The postponement of the decision, which the administration sought in view of the school building, has now received a rebuff in the transport committee.

Holzkirchen

- Administration and politics in Holzkirchen have been looking for a solution for the traffic situation around the elementary and middle school in Baumgartenstrasse for over a year. Residents there had complained massively about a high level of traffic, especially on beautiful weekend excursions and at rush hours when the Tölzer Straße slowed down. In October 2020, the traffic committee considered a passage restriction: A short section between the Batusa parking lot and the footpath at the gym should only be passable for bus traffic and emergency services.

The decision in the municipal council is still pending. And the municipal administration would have liked to postpone it further and reassess the situation when the construction of the interim school and the demolition and rebuilding of the middle school have been completed. The fire brigade and police in particular are reporting concerns.

If, for example, Münchner Strasse is to be closed at markets, Baumgartenstrasse must be open: "Otherwise, the inflow and outflow of traffic would be difficult," said Johann Brandhuber, head of the Holzkirchen Police Inspection (PI), on Thursday in the transport committee. Brandhuber does not consider it sensible to temporarily lift the blockade for the duration of festivities in the town center. "There has to be continuity, otherwise there will be damage." District fire chief Anton Riblinger referred to the legally prescribed period of time within which rescue workers must be on site: "We have a problem if the deadline for assistance cannot be met because of the blockage."

Because of the upcoming construction work at the middle school and the interim construction, the situation will worsen. "There will be traffic, I ask the residents for their understanding," said Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU). He pointed out that disturbances due to too much traffic only occur on weekends and in the morning: “In 90 percent we have a proper flow of traffic.” The construction site and the objections of the police speak from the administration's point of view for postponing the decision on what to do in Baumgartenstrasse should happen. But you don't want to push the problem away, says Schmid: "We'll keep watching."

Karl Bär (Greens) saw no reason to do so: “What has changed since the situation a year ago?” He wanted to know. "The situation with the blocking of the other streets," replied Schmid with a view to the objections of the blue light organizations. Bär did not want to accept that: He could not understand that a lock should lead to more accidents. "Let's stick with what we decided in October," he appealed. He found approval from Torsten Hensel (FWG) and Anita Gritschneder (Greens), who annoyed them that they had not just tried the blocking. Sebastian Franz (CSU) confessed that he did not believe in such experiments. For him it is a murder argument against the closure if it means the end of all festivities on the market square.

The majority in the committee saw it differently.

Against the votes of the CSU, she refused to postpone the decision.

It is now up to the mayor to put the issue on the municipal council's agenda as soon as possible.

Schmid announced that he was trying to get a conversation between the administration, rescue workers and traffic planners beforehand.
