He was charged with three counts of inciting others to split the country and terrorist activities, and was the first trial case of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law.
The prosecution completed the evidence today (8th), and the defense made a mid-section statement, requesting the court to rule that the three crimes were unfounded.
The defense emphasized that the defendant’s actions did not instigate others to split the country. It also alleged that the defendant had avoided police officers and stopped at traffic lights when driving a motorcycle, and questioned whether this act was a terrorist act.
After hearing the submission, the judge adjourned the decision until tomorrow.

He was charged with 1 count of inciting others to divide the country and 1 count of terrorist activity, and 1 count of dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others, which is an alternate count of terrorist activity.
The prosecution expert's statement is unreasonable
In its submission on the crime of "inciting others to split the country," the defense stated that the banner with the slogan "Time of Light" did not indicate the secession of the country, and the defendant's actions did not instigate others to split the country.
The prosecution quoted expert witness and professor Liu Zhipeng of Lingnan University’s history department, stating that the meaning of the words on the banner had not changed, and the defense said that the statement was unreasonable.
The defense also stated that when Liang Tianqi, the creator of the "light time" slogan, used this slogan, he was running for the Legislative Council and had to change the regime.
The police shield distracted the defendant
As for the crime of terrorist activity, the defense alleged that the defendant had avoided police officers when driving a motorcycle and stopped at traffic lights, and questioned whether these were terrorist acts.
The defense also stated that the defendant braked before hitting the police officer and that the police officer involved was not seriously injured.
However, Judge Du Libing retorted that the police officer was fortunate not to be seriously injured, and questioned whether the defendant’s motorcycle avoided the police officer or the police officer avoided the motorcycle.
The defense also stated that before the defendant drove a motorcycle into a police officer, or was hit by a police officer's shield, even if he was not hit, he was distracted.

The prosecution's submission stated that the incident was the first day when the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" came into effect and was widely reported by the media, and the defendant must have learned about it.
However, the defendant drove a motorcycle from the Eastern Harbour Crossing to Wan Chai and crossed the police line.
During this period, the crowd cheered and clapped their hands.
As for the crime of terrorist activity, the prosecution emphasized that the defendant’s actions seriously harmed public safety.
