The Dutch government attributes this to the nightlife, among other things.
For this reason, politics is now putting a stop to clubs, discos and party events.
The regulation applies from Saturday, July 10th to at least August 13th, 2021. For all other cultural events, the organizers must assign participants a seat and ensure a minimum distance of 1.5 meters.
Restaurants and pubs now close at midnight until at least six in the morning.

Incidence skyrocketed, but club access was only allowed with testing or vaccination
The nightlife had only started again under security precautions two weeks ago. The party goers had to prove either a negative test or a full vaccination in nightclubs or at parties. The country reported 7,000 new cases on July 9 alone, the highest number since mid-May, as reported by the

Just a week earlier, the number was 800 cases per 24 hours.
Around half of the population in the Netherlands is currently vaccinated, so herd immunity is not yet given.
Around 80 percent have already received a primary vaccination.
