After the “timeline exhibition” served as the prelude to the celebrations for the 900th anniversary of the monastery, the “Bernried Humor Festival”, which runs in parallel, has now been opened.
Art and Science Minister Bernd Sibler made a special flying visit to the monastery village.
The ministry is supporting the festival with 18,000 euros.

Ha! ”Well, it wasn't really a path that State Minister Bernd Sibler officially inaugurated on Saturday afternoon together with Mayor Georg Malterer and Reinhard G. Wittmann, the chairman of the“ Forum Humor and Comical Art ”. Accompanied by numerous artists, local councils, association boards, the Bernried brass band and guests from neighboring communities, the trio cut a red ribbon on the lakeside path, but it was the starting signal for the “Bernried Humor Festival”. The ceremony took place near the steamer jetty. There is also the first highlight of the humor festival - namely the "Lachwald".In the small wood, sound installer David Berlinghof recorded laughter voices from celebrities and Bernried residents via a sensor. At station “1”, for example, the unmistakably sarcastic laugh of cabaret artist Gerhard Polt can be heard.

Despite the generally good mood: In his greeting, Art Minister Sibler admitted that he actually “didn't feel like laughing at all” that day. The Minister of State referred to the many dead as a result of the flood disaster in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. You have to find a balancing act between joy and sadness. Humor also has "therapeutic facets". Especially in view of the Corona crisis, it is a matter of creating a "spirit of optimism". You have to "get people used again" to attend cultural events, says Sibler. In this context, the "Humor Festival Bernried" is a "wonderful action" because it would offer the art scene, which has been hard hit by the pandemic, the opportunity to present itself and generate income:“People want to earn their own money - in front of an audience,” emphasized Sibler. Of course, the Minister of State did not come to Bernried empty-handed. The culture fund of his ministry supports the humor festival with 18,000 euros. This covers half of the total budget. The remainder is shared by the “Forum Humor” and the community.
Until September the visitors will experience a varied program. In addition to the cabaret performances by Gerhard Polt and Martina Schwarzmann, the program includes a reading show by Axel Hacke and a solo concert by Roland Hefter. For the younger festival-goers “Doctor Döblinger's tasteful puppet theater” will give a performance. The Buchheim Museum is also on board. According to Wittmann, the “basic idea” of the festival is that the museum should be better integrated into the community. “What stands or hangs in the museum should also be seen outside in a modified form. It is an attempt to network the whole thing. ”The platforms used for this include the“ Humor Parcours ”, the sculpture park in the monastery garden - and the“ Lachwald ”.
