The State of Veracruz has approved the decriminalization of abortion up to the 12th week of gestation and becomes the fourth entity, out of 32 States, to recognize this right along with Mexico City, Oaxaca and, recently, Hidalgo.

With 25 votes in favor, 13 against and one abstention, the local Congress has approved the reform of the Penal Code that will allow the free interruption of pregnancy. During the session, the legislator from Morena Mónica Robles pointed out that her political party is in favor of life and the right of women to decide about their bodies: “Criminalizing [abortion] does not prevent it from being practiced, but also what does What is done is that it is practiced in unhealthy and clandestine conditions where women and young people put their lives at risk, ”he said.
During the morning anti-rights groups demonstrated in front of the Legislative Palace to express their rejection of the reform.
