In line with its
expansion strategy
, this year's legislative election appeared as propitious for La Cámpora to seek to
add some
more
seats
to the Senate, where it
already has 7 senators of its own
.
But in the closing of lists the
electoral pragmatism
of Cristina Kirchner
prevailed
and, instead of growing, the organization led by Máximo Kirchner
is on the way to shrinking in the upper house.
Out of 41 senators from the Frente de Todos block, the 7 that make up La Cámpora are
Ana Claudia Almirón from
Corrientes
,
Martín Doñate from
Rio de Janeiro
,
María Eugenia Duré
and
Matías Rodríguez from
Tierra
del
Fuego
, Mariano Recalde from Buenos Aires,
María de los Angeles Sacnun from
Santa Fe
and Anabel Fernández Sagasti from Mendoza.
In December
the mandates
of Almirón, Fernández Sagasti and Sacnun expire;
They are
key
to the ruling party in the structure of the Senate and preside over three
strategic
commissions
: the General Legislation, the Agreement and the Constitutional Affairs.

Of the three,
the only one who will be reelected with certainty is the Mendoza woman
, who heads the ballot for the Senate of the Front of All (FdT) in that province.
Although the FdT is second - everything indicates that Cambia Mendoza will win there, which has the radical Alfredo Cornejo at the top of the list - Fernández Sagasti
would achieve the bench for the minority
.
But the
outlook
for Almirón and Sacnun
looks more complicated
.
The Corrientes second to
Carlos "Camau" Espínola
.
The current senator and
Olympic medalist
was always viewed with
distrust
from Kirchnerism.
Almost three years ago -on August 15, 2018-, Espínola was one of the members of the Peronist caucus who was present at the frustrated session in which
authorization
was to be
granted
to Federal Judge Claudio Bonadio to search
the homes
and the office of the then senator
Cristina Kirchner
.
That session fell due to lack of a quorum.
Even more.
This year there were strong versions, both in Corrientes and in the Senate, that Camau
could run as vice candidate of the radical governor
Gustavo Valdés, who will seek
his re-election
this year
.
But in pursuit of maintaining the ruling majority in the upper house, Cristina seems to have made a big deal out of it and
elected him to head the ballot
in Corrientes.
Both were meeting on July 21 -
three days before the closing of lists
- in the Senate.
Camau's choice is simple: he is the Peronist who
measures the best
in Corrientes.
The current senator, by going first, is assured of re-election.
Almiron, no.
In order to keep his seat, he needs that the provincial ruling party of Governor Valdés does not win the election and remains with the two majority senators.
In Peronism they
admit
that the vote appears "very complicated."
What happened with María de los Ángeles Sacnun is similar.
It is second to
Marcelo Lewandowski
.
So to ensure his re-election he needs his list to win the election.
Cristina Kirchner and María de los Ángeles Sacnun.
Fact 1: in Santa Fe the fight for the two majority and minority seats
will be between three
: the FdT, Together for Change and the Progressive Front.
One of the three forces will be left with nothing.
Fact 2: to be a candidate for the Senate, the list that Sacnun is on
must first beat her in the STEP
on September 12, led by Agustín Rossi.
The closure of Santa Fe lists also
reveals the pragmatism of
the vice president.
Instead of ensuring the reelection of the
key and loyal
Sacnun, he closed an agreement with Governor Omar Perotti for the Perottista Lewandowski to lead the ballot, who according to the polls
promises
a better electoral performance.
More pragmatism
Cristina was also
practical
in Chubut.
Senator
Nancy González
, whose term expires and has always been aligned with the vice president, is left out.
And instead of candidates from
La Cámpora
, the ballot for the Senate carries the Peronists
Carlos Linares
and
Florencia Papaiani
.
In addition to
Fernández Sagasti
from Mendoza
, the other camper who has practically guaranteed her bench is
Luz Alonso from
Pampas
, who is second on the list of
Daniel Bensasún
, who is the terminal of Governor Sergio Ziliotto.
Alonso, current Administrative Secretary of the Senate, is a figure of
extreme confidence
in Cristina Kirchner: in the sessions, she is the young woman who sits to the left of the vice president.
Thus, of the three benches that it puts into play in this election, La Cámpora
would only be guaranteed the preservation of one
(that of Sagasti) and the conquest of another (that of Alonso), but
runs the risk of losing two
(those of Almirón and Sacnun).
If the planets align and triumph in all the provinces in which senators are elected, La Cámpora
would add at most 8 senators
, just one more than now.
If it falls in
Santa Fe
and Corrientes, it would be reduced to 6 members.
