Freising green for more reusable: The winners should be the environment, but also the hosts

- "One-way packaging for take-away food and drinks is both an environmental burden and a financial burden on the catering trade": This is how the Greens' district parliamentary group justifies an application to promote the switch to reusable systems for take-away food and drinks. Group spokeswoman Claudia Bosse: “Whether bakeries, butchers, grocery stores, ice cream parlors, snack bars and food trucks, restaurants or pubs: they should all benefit from the funding program and counteract the flood of plastic and paper cups. Due to the pandemic and lockdown, take-away meals and food deliveries are booming - but the mountains of packaging waste have also increased. ”There are now various providers who offer deposit-based reusable packaging systems and which can be easily integrated into everyday business.These are also more cost-effective for the companies in the long term, emphasized the group chairwoman.

The district should play a pioneering role

The Greens are hereby anticipating a decision by the federal government from the beginning of this year, which will make the offer of reusable systems mandatory from 2023.

“With a funding program, the Freising district could provide foresighted support for local gastronomy in a currently difficult situation and at the same time take a pioneering role in implementation before 2023,” adds Sabina Brosch.

Corresponding systems are to be introduced across the board in order to be attractive to customers.

Ultimately, it is the consumers who make a contribution to resource conservation, waste avoidance and climate protection by choosing sustainable ToGo packaging.
