The US will donate 8.5 million vaccines against covid-19 to Mexico

The US will donate 3.5 million Moderna vaccines and 5 million AstraZeneca vaccines to Mexico, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced.

United States will donate another 8.5 million vaccines against covid-19 to Mexico, as reported on Tuesday by the Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard.

Following a conversation between the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, and the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on Monday afternoon, the United States stated that they would donate 3.5 million vaccines from Moderna and 5 million vaccines from AstraZeneca , according to Ebrard, while Mexico faces an increase in cases amid a third wave of Covid-19.

Ebrard said he expected the vaccines "very soon, in August."

"We are in a good moment in the relationship with the United States, the issues that we have raised have been addressed and thus a relationship is built, with respect for both parties," he added.

Ebrard also said they welcomed Tuesday's visit from White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan;

the Secretary of National Security, Alejandro Mayorkas;

and the senior director of the National Security Council for the Western Hemisphere, Juan González, to Mexico City, during which they discussed the possible reopening of the border so that non-essential travel could continue.

Ebrard said that "we will speak with Secretary Mayorkas, to determine when we can open the border for activities that they, the United States, consider not essential."
