In Nicaragua, the Catholic Church expressed in its latest statement that there are no conditions for credible and participatory elections, after the imprisonment of opposition citizens, including eight candidates for the presidency and vice-presidency.
The Nicaraguan government has not given an official response to the statement, although President Daniel Ortega has made remarks against the bishops.
