Afghanistan's Tolo News channel announced today that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has left the Afghan capital, Kabul, after Taliban militants entered the city.

The channel quoted two local sources as saying that "President Ghani left the country after the Taliban entered the city, and that his close aides left with him."

The channel indicated that the Acting Afghan Defense Minister, Bismillah Mohammadi, had announced earlier that the Afghan president had handed over responsibility for resolving the crisis in the country to political leaders and that a delegation would head to the Qatari capital, Doha, tomorrow, Monday, to hold talks on the situation in the country.

In addition, sources close to the Taliban said that it was agreed on Ghani's resignation after a political agreement and handing over power to a transitional government.

The Afghan Interior Minister, Abdul Sattar Mirza Kawal, had confirmed earlier today that "a peaceful transition of power to a transitional government will take place," while Afghan media said that the former Minister of Interior, Ali Ahmad Jalali, was the one who was agreed to head this transitional government in the country.

The Taliban has recently taken control of large areas of Afghanistan, including important cities and border crossings, in conjunction with the US administration's announcement of the withdrawal of its soldiers from this country after an occupation that lasted for nearly two decades and completely drained Afghanistan and plunged it into a cycle of chaos and violence.
