Airlines change routes and suspend flights to avoid Afghanistan

At least three airlines have suspended flights or changed routes to avoid Afghanistan's airspace after the country's government fell into the hands of the Taliban.
United Airlines said in a statement that it would divert flights around Afghanistan and would "continue to work closely with the FAA and IATA to assess the situation."
The US-based airline's flights to India will be affected.
Emirates said on its website that it had suspended flights to and from Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, due to the "developing situation."
A FlyDubai media spokesperson told CNN that it also suspended operations to Kabul and continues to monitor the situation.
CNN has reached out to Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and Qatar Airways for their flight plans, but has yet to receive a response.
An Air India spokesperson told CNN that the airline is "monitoring the situation closely" and trying to operate scheduled flights to and from Afghanistan if the situation allows.

All US embassy personnel have been evacuated, the State Department said.

All personnel have been evacuated from the US embassy in Kabul and are now at the Kabul airport, the State Department said Sunday night.
“We can confirm that the safe evacuation of all embassy personnel has been completed.
All embassy personnel are located in the facilities of the Hamid Karzai International Airport, whose perimeter is secured by the United States Armed Forces, ”said State Department spokesman Ned Price in a statement.

UN secretary general calls for restraint in Afghanistan

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged the Taliban and all other parties in Afghanistan to "exercise the utmost restraint to protect lives and ensure that humanitarian needs can be met."
The secretary general called on all parties to allow access for humanitarian actors to provide aid and services throughout the country.
Guterres is expected to speak to the United Nations Security Council on Monday morning.
