Geneva-Sana

The World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) have called for the establishment of a humanitarian air bridge for the continuous entry of medicines and humanitarian aid into Afghanistan.

"With no commercial aircraft currently allowed to land in Kabul, we have no way of bringing aid supplies into the country except via a humanitarian air bridge," the Associated Press quoted the two organizations as saying in a joint statement, stressing their commitment to staying and providing assistance to the Afghan people.

Developments in Afghanistan accelerated after the Taliban entered the capital, Kabul, and took control of most government institutions, while the city's airport witnessed a state of chaos, with Western countries, led by the United States rushing to evacuate their nationals from the country that left it in a state of chaos and violence.
