Argentine swimmer Daniela Giménez was on the verge of getting a medal in the final of the 100-meter breaststroke (SB9) of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The 29-year-old Chaco set a time of 1m18s70 and finished in fourth place.
The event was won by the Dutch Chantalle Zijderveld, who completed the event in 1m10s99 with a world and Paralympic record.
The also Dutch Lisa Kruger, Paralympic champion in Rio de Janeiro 2016, who registered a time of 1m13s91 and the Australian Keira Stephens who finished in 1m17s59 completed the podium.
Giménez had obtained the third fastest time among the eight finalists in the qualifying series and there was hope that she could get a medal, a dream that was frustrated for just over a second.

It is the fourth Olympic experience for the Chaqueña, who had been seventh in this same event in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016. Not only did she achieve her best position in Tokyo, but she was one hundredth behind her best record .
