(CNN) - The
United States has carried out an airstrike against an ISIS-K planner, a spokesman for the United States Central Command said in a statement on Friday.
"US military forces carried out a counterterrorism operation today against an ISIS-K planner. The unmanned aerial attack occurred in Nangahar province in Afghanistan. The first indications are that we killed the target. We do not know if there are civilian casualties." spokesman Captain Bill Urban said in the statement.
The announcement of the attack came a day after President Joe Biden vowed to retaliate for a terrorist attack that killed 13 US servicemen and at least 170 others outside Kabul International Airport, even as he said the frenzied mission to evacuate Americans from Afghanistan it would continue.
Biden approved of the attack on the ISIS-K planner, according to an official familiar with the matter.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement Friday that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had been warned by their national security team that "another terrorist attack is likely in Kabul."
The US embassy in Kabul again advised US citizens at various airport gates to "leave immediately", citing security threats.

"Due to security threats at the Kabul airport, we continue to advise American citizens to avoid traveling to the airport and avoid the airport gates," the alert said.
