Munich - It was a crime that puzzled investigators: On December 27th last year, a subtenant found her landlady, 66-year-old Mira Kostov, dead in her apartment.

The injuries left no doubt: a crime had occurred here.

But who was the culprit?

After extensive investigations, the police * and the public prosecutor's office have now announced: There is a suspect.

The circumstances make one shudder.

Mira Kostov (66) was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In the early morning hours of Boxing Day, a Bosnian (52) is said to have penetrated the pink-washed house on Amalienburgstrasse in the west of Munich *.

Kostov surprised him.

According to the police, he killed her with an "unknown object".

According to Chief Public Prosecutor Anne Leiding, there are two characteristics of murder: "Greed and the covering up of another crime." The burglar had apparently searched the house for valuables.

Investigators found traces of DNA.

But from whom?

As it turned out, the Serbian had around 150 sub-tenants, mostly from Serbia.

Some were registered in Obermenzing *, some not, some had not been there for a long time - a mess.

Several leads then led to the suspect.

"The DNA traces led to a violent crime in Croatia over 15 years ago," said Mathias Heidtmann, deputy head of the homicide squad.

One of the sub-tenants, who comes from the Srpska region in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a relative of the 52-year-old.

And: The suspect took the bus from Munich to his home on December 27th.

These and other traces led to the man against whom an arrest warrant was issued on February 10th.

On April 1, he was arrested while crossing the border from Bosnia and Herzegovina into Serbia.

Munich officials picked him up from Serbia on Thursday.

This Friday he was brought before the investigating judge.

He was silent about the allegations.
