Elad Forgesh, a young Israeli, was attacked after he told a seller at a sculpture shop in the city of Pisa in Italy that he was Jewish.
Forges explained that on August 31 he was walking around the local market in Italy, looking for souvenirs.
One of the shops had statues of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and he approached the seller in order to buy a statuette.
He described the sequence of events: "I started talking to the seller while he was packing the statues for me. He told me he was from Bangladesh and was interested in where I was from, and I replied that I was from Israel. He told me he hated Israel and the Jews because they were murderers. I returned the bag with the sculptures to him, and said I would give up buying from him.
Meet before and after the injury,
"When I turned around, he knocked the statues on my head. Luckily there were tourists who photographed him and he fled the scene, and the police and an ambulance arrived, and evacuated me to the hospital."
Elad said he has a fracture in his eye socket and nose, and he will need surgery when he returns to Israel.
Pisa police are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.
