The battle that Britney would have won in her legal fight 1:40
(CNN) -
Britney Spears' fight to end the court-ordered guardianship took an unexpected turn Tuesday when her estate's father and guardian, Jamie Spears, filed a petition to end the agreement.
In a court document obtained by CNN, Jamie Spears cited her daughter's allegations in two court hearings that took place over the summer in connection with her request to end the 13-year guardianship.
"Recent events related to this guardianship have cast doubt on whether circumstances have changed to such an extent that there are no longer grounds to establish a guardianship," the filing says.
"Ms. Spears has told this court that she wants to regain control of her life without the safety barriers of a conservatorship. She wants to be able to make decisions about her own health care, deciding when, where and how often to receive therapy. You want to control the money you have earned from your career and spend it unsupervised or unsupervised. You want to be able to marry and have a child, if you choose. In short, you want to live your life as you choose without the limitations of a conservator or court proceeding "says the petition in part.
"As Mr. Spears has said over and over again, all he wants is the best for his daughter. If Ms. Spears wants to end the guardianship and believes she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes she should have that opportunity, "the petition says.
