Tartous, SANA- The National Cancer Control Committee has launched an action plan for the national campaign for early detection

The National Cancer Control Committee began launching the work plan of the national campaign for early detection for this year, through a workshop that it held today in the meeting room of the Tartous Governorate building.

The interventions focused on reviewing and discussing the work plan by defining the locations of the mobile units, setting up a mechanism for carrying out the work, and transferring blood samples and smears to hospitals and laboratories.

The head of the National Committee for Cancer Control, Dr. Arwa Al-Azma, pointed out in a press statement that today’s workshop is a preparatory process for starting a national survey process for breast, cervical and prostate cancers, starting from Tartous governorate and moving


to the rest of the governorates, noting that rural areas were targeted in the campaign, which were not previously covered by the campaign. Running mobile units to reach all areas of the governorate.

Dr. Maha Farajallah Manashi, a member of the National Committee for Cancer Control, said in a press statement that the committee, unlike previous years, is working to accurately count the types of cancer, including men for the first time, and targeting age groups from the age of 40, indicating that through early detection of cancer, epidemiological samples are taken that contribute Drawing strategies for early detection of the disease and developing appropriate plans to deal with it, because early detection raises the cure rate to 80 percent.

Haider Merhej, Secretary-General of the governorate and head of the National Cancer Control Committee in Tartous, indicated in a press statement after the meeting that the governorate has started implementing logistical procedures in terms of securing transportation and places for mobile units to be placed, pointing out that there are 8 fixed centers at the governorate level and 4 mobile units that may be added another unit. And that the campaign will be launched on the tenth of next month.

The workshop was attended by Tartous Governor, Lawyer Safwan Abu Saadi, Tartous Health Director, Dr. Ahmed Ammar, directors of public and private hospitals, the medical team, heads of administrative units and representatives of NGOs in the governorate.

It is noteworthy that October was chosen globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which records two million new cases annually.
